When I was a child the questions were simple: Why did the chicken cross the road? How could George Jefferson afford to live in a penthouse? Why did we have chili hot dogs at school every Wednesday? Why COULDN’T we come back in the house until the street lights came on?”
Well, to be absolutely honest – I kind of knew the answer to that last question – we couldn’t come inside because there were five of us and momma wanted a clean house.
Now that I am older not much has changed – I still do not have the answers to all my questions. Some are still simple: When will the Publisher’s Clearing House Van arrive? Where IS Waldo? Why can’t he put the toilet seat back down? Why won’t my children return my calls until I threaten to visit them? Other questions are more painfully complex: Why did my mother die from cancer? Will I ever pay off my student loans? Does life ever get easy?
As a child, I wanted quick answers. Now that I am grown – I understand that I won’t always get or need the answers I seek. (I Corinthians 13:11)
There will be times when the answer is a no brainer. There will be times when I have to search it out. There will be times I only need to know the portion God reveals to me. At other times, the answer is more than I can bear and God conceals it from me for my good. (Proverbs 2:6, Proverbs 25:2, I Corinthians 13:12, Ecclesiastes 2:26).
As I get older hopefully I will grow in wisdom and seek out the answers then and accept what God reveals. (Proverbs 1:1 – 7, Daniel 2:21 – 22)
How do you search for the answers to the questions in your life? (Isaiah 55:6)
